Top 10 campfire snacks

Summer is coming to a close and it won’t be long before the school bells start ringing! Make the most of your remaining time this summer and try out these great camping or backyard bonfire snacks.

Quesadillas
Easy as 1-2-3! All you have to do is quesadillas together (fillings can include shredded cheese, pre-cooked chicken, black beans and salsa) place them on tin foil and cover them up, and sit them on the grate right over your campfire. And just like that, dinner is served!

Campfire nachos
Who doesn’t love a good plate of nachos? Prep your ground beef beforehand, line a frying pan with heavy-duty aluminum foil, and layer your tortilla chips with tomatoes, lettuce, refried beans, and ground beef – add some jalapenos for a kick. Top it all off with shredded cheese and cover with tin foil or lid, and cook over your grill or campfire until cheese is melted. Serve with salsa, guacamole or sour cream. Yum!

Sweet instant oatmeal
Perfect for breakfast or a quick snack, just take some instant oats or oatmeal packets, add water and boil over the campfire. Add chopped fruit like strawberries, bananas or apples, or chocolate chips and peanut butter for some sweetness.

S’mores cones
S’mores are the ultimate campfire treat, but we all know how messy they can be. Grab sugar or waffle ice cream cones, fill them with mini marshmallows and chocolate chips and wrap them in aluminum foil. Stick them on the campfire grill for about 10 mins and enjoy!

Foil fries
Take a piece of aluminum foil, fold up the sides to make it into a bowl shape, add frozen fries to the foil pouch and then top it with your favourite toppings such as shredded cheese, green onions, bacon bits, chilli or gravy. Fold the foil to close the pouch and cook over the fire until the fries are cooked through.

Campfire corn
Corn on the cob is a summer staple! Combine butter, garlic powder, chives, salt and pepper in a small bowl and then rub the flavoured butter over the corn. Wrap each piece of corn with heavy-duty foil and cook over the campfire, turning occasionally, for about 15 minutes.

S’mores skillet dip
Add a layer of your favourite chocolate to a skillet and top it off with jumbo marshmallows. Place over your campfire to melt the chocolate and toast the marshmallows and top it all off with a drizzle of chocolate or caramel sauce. Grab some graham crackers and dig in!

Mac ‘n cheese
Boil macaroni noodles separately and add cooked pasta to a mini aluminum pie tin. Add alfredo sauce and a bit of half and half cream, and top off with your favourite shredded cheese. Heat up over the campfire and enjoy!

Spider dogs
Another campfire classic! Grab some hot dogs, slice them to create “tentacles” or “legs”, place them on a skewer and cook over a campfire flame.

Cinnamon twists
Using pre-made cinnamon bun dough from your grocery store, simply unravel the pre-rolled cinnamon buns, twist around a metal skewer and cook over a campfire, turning often. Dip in icing or chocolate sauce for extra fun.
